AFC North Betting Preview

AFC North Betting Preview

In the last four seasons the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals have alternated as AFC North Champions. The offensively-loaded Steelers are -170 favorites to repeat as divisional champs this year, while the Bengals are sitting at +325 to reclaim first place.

Baltimore last won the division in 2012, and they currently have slightly better odds than Cincinnati to take home the crown this season. Cleveland finished in last place eight of the past nine seasons and it appears that oddsmakers are expecting more of the same from the AFC North cellar dwellers.

Overall the AFC North was not profitable for bettors during the 2016 season. The only team with a winning record against the spread was Pittsburgh. The Black and Gold were also the only team in the division to return any profit when betting on the moneyline, albeit only half a unit.

MVP Candidates: Ben Roethlisberger +1200, LeVon Bell +2500, Antonio Brown +3300, Andy Dalton +5000

DPOY Candidates: Ryan Shazier +2500, C.J. Mosley +5000, Myles Garrett +4000, Jamie Collins +4000

Offensive ROY Candidates: Joe Mixon +1400, John Ross +2000, Juju Smith-Schuster +5000, DeShone Kizer +3300, David Njoku +3300

League Leader Candidates:

  • Passing Touchdowns: Ben Roethlisberger +1200, Andy Dalton +5000,
  • Passing Yards: Ben Roethlisberger +1600, Andy Dalton +5000, Joe Flacco +4000
  • Receiving Touchdowns: Antonio Brown +450, A.J. Green +2500, Tyler Eifert +2500
  • Receiving Yards: Antonio Brown +325, A.J. Green +1000

In a division loaded with positional talent, many AFC North players are listed on the futures lists. Antonio Brown is the +325 favorite to lead the league in receiving yards and is also the +450 favorite to lead in receiving touchdowns.

Fellow standout receiver A.J. Green was en-route to a monster season before sustaining a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 11. He’s currently listed at +1000 to lead in receiving yards and has the same odds as teammate Tyler Eifert to lead the league in receiving touchdowns.

The AFC North is also well represented among the leagues offensive rookie of the year candidates. Bengals running back Joe Mixon has a great chance to take home the hardware and it seems like a bargain that he’s available at +1400. Browns tight end David Njoku is a tempting wager too, and he’s available at +3300.
