Bettors Scared Away From The Jets, Even in Preseason

Saturday night features three preseason games, starting with the Titans at Jets. We’ve highlighted just how bad the Jets could be this season, and head coach Todd Bowles is already the clear early favorite to be first coach fired. Bettors have been pounding the Under on their Season Win Total, and only 20% of spread tickets are taking the Jets for Week 1 of the regular season.

Nothing has changed for the preseason. They opened +2.5 at home against the Titans and have moved to +3, while only 22% of spread bettors are brave enough to take the Jets. While it’s true that preseason games are essentially meaningless when it comes to wins and losses, it’s rare to see a team getting such little support. There have only been nine instances since 2003 where teams were getting lower support in the preseason (5-4 ATS in those games).

Bettors will likely be keeping a close eye on the QB battle, as Josh McCown is the -255 favorite to start Week 1 of the regular season and Christian Hackenberg is +235. Bryce Petty is a massive longshot at +2000 but he was listed at +4500 last week. It’s the Jets, so you never know.

The other two games feature Cowboys (-3) at Rams, and Raiders at Cardinals (-3). For what it’s worth, Jason Garrett has been a great head coach to fade in the preseason, as his teams have gone just 9-16 ATS. The slight majority of bets is coming in on Dallas and Arizona to cover, and we have a current line prediction on the OAK/ARZ spread.
