Updated Heisman Odds: No Surprise as Barkley Remains the Favorite

It seemed that Saquon Barkley’s Heisman stock was ready to finally take a hit after Northwestern’s defense held him to -1 rushing yards in the first half of Saturday’s game. But we should have known better, as Barkley found his rhythm in the second half, rushing for 75 yards and two touchdowns. He’s unsurprisingly the Heisman favorite again this week and now pays out at even money.

Rising Heisman hopeful Bryce Love had an “off” day on Saturday, rushing for just 152 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown. Amazingly, that was probably his worst game of the season thus far. He’s up to 1,240 rushing yards already this year, and is still somehow averaging double digit (10.5) yards per attempt. We highlighted him as a value play last week at +1400, but I’d argue there’s still some value left at +800.

Despite a tough home loss to Iowa State, Baker Mayfield’s Heisman chances didn’t change much, a testament to his impressive stat line in the loss. He threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns on 24 of 33 passing, and rushed for 57 yards and another touchdown.

The other Big 12 standout quarterback, Mason Rudolph, improved his Heisman chances this week with an even more impressive performance at Texas Tech. Rudolph threw for three touchdowns and rushed for two more to go along with his 376 passing yards, bumping him up to +600 to take home the Trophy at the end of the year.

This seems to be Barkley’s race to lose, but can someone else take over by season’s end? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section or reach out to us on Twitter @SportsInsights.
