College Football Title Odds: Clemson, Georgia Continue to Rise

For three quarters on Saturday, Clemson did not look like a title contender. Entering the fourth tied 7-7 with BC at home, the Tigers put up 27 unanswered points to take a 34-7 win, and restore some normalcy to the college football world. In doing so, they also leapfrogged USC and Oklahoma as the second most likely team to win the College Football Playoff this season, only behind Alabama.

Following their 31-3 win over an undefeated Mississippi State team, Georgia is now the second most likely SEC team to win the title at +1400, and most likely team in the SEC East. The Bulldogs will attempt to remain undefeated when they face Tennessee on the road this weekend.

Despite a win at Purdue on Saturday, Michigan falls to +2000 this week. The drop can probably be attributed to the loss of quarterback Wilton Speight, who left Saturday’s game after taking a hit on a sack. Though backup QB John O’Korn played well enough to come back and win the game (270 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), the uncertainty of Speight’s injury combined with wins from both Penn State and Ohio State is enough to cause concern for the Wolverines’ title chances.

TCU’s impressive win at Oklahoma State maintained an undefeated record, and shot them up to number 9 in the latest AP Top 25 rankings. Their title odds also shot up from +6600 to +3300, tied for the 11th best in the nation. They’ll see West Virginia at home this Saturday.

Who stands out to you this week? Are Georgia and TCU for real? Does Clemson deserve the second spot on this list? Let us know what you think in the comment section or reach out to us on Twitter @SportsInsights.
