2017-18 NBA Divisional Odds
NBA Divisional Odds came out while Free Agency was in full swing, but plenty has obviously changed since that time. We’ll continue to update odds for all teams as the season progresses (via 5Dimes and BetOnline).
ATLANTIC (EAST)

Celtics opened -200 and moved to -400 following the Kyrie Irving trade. Every other team in the Atlantic saw their odds get worse. Despite losing Gordon Hayward in the opening game, Boston has been one of the best teams in the league and are still big favorites to win the division.

Cleveland is now a massive -2500 favorite to win the Central despite trading Kyrie Irving in the offseason and not having Isaiah Thomas play yet. Indiana traded Paul George over the summer which allowed their divisional odds to soar, and Chicago quickly unraveled right before the season.
SOUTHEAST (EAST)

Wizards had a sizable move from -125 to -170 to win the division before the season, while the Hawks and Magic faded significantly. We also saw movement on Miami and Charlotte, but that can be attributed to Atlanta and Orlando completely falling out of the picture. Things have pretty much panned out accordingly with Washington at the top of the division.

The Northwest Division is another great example of how much the Free Agency period can affect teams. OKC turned out to be the -160 preseason favorite after finding themselves behind both Minnesota and Utah over the summer. I thought the Nuggets were worth keeping an eye on before the season at +500, and even though they’re still in the thick of the divisional race, their odds are now +1200.

This looked like a two-horse race between San Antonio and Houston before the season, both hovering around a 50% chance to win the division, and that proved to be true. The Rockets stormed out of the gates this year but have run into some issues lately, so San Antonio at +300 is pretty enticing right now.

The least competitive division in the NBA was the Warriors’ to lose, and I felt it would be a shock if any team comes within 10 games of Golden State. We aren’t even halfway through the season and they already have a 12.5 game lead over the second place Clippers.
