Vegas Confident that the Hornets, Nuggets, Bucks, and Heat Make the Playoffs

Originally published August 29th

Along with their own win totals, the Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas has released playoff odds for the upcoming season. These have been available at some offshore books for a while now and just as we saw with the totals, some of these playoff odds vary greatly.

It will take a lot more money to make $100 on some of these teams if you plan on betting in Vegas rather than online. The Hornets’ odds at BetOnline correspond with a 63% chance that they’ll make the playoffs, while Westgate’s come out to a 78% chance.

The Nuggets, also at -360, are believed to have a 10% better chance according to Westgate’s oddsmakers.

Milwaukee, led by one of the top MVP candidates in Giannis Antetokounmpo, is viewed essentially as a playoff lock at -800.

As we saw with the win totals, Vegas really hates the Hawks. Their win total was 8 lower at the Westgate than at BetOnline and their odds of making the playoffs are an astronomical 14/1.

One team that the Westgate doesn’t like (other than Atlanta) is the Pistons. Their odds of -160 at BetOnline suggest a 61.5% chance they make the playoffs, but based on Westgate’s odds, they believe there is only about a 43% chance.

Also looked down upon by Vegas are the Knicks. They have the 12th best odds in the east to make the playoffs at +425…

The NBA is just loaded with talent right now. Perhaps as much collective talent as ever before. If you hear something stupid about how that’s not true because the Warriors and Cavs have each made three straight Finals, keep in mind two things: One, the NBA has ALWAYS been dominated by a select few teams/players. Always. It’s just the nature of the beast. Two, there are more teams than ever before.
