Any time a mid-season trade takes place, an immediate impact on the sports betting lines will occur. This morning Randy Moss, an explosive athlete who impacts an entire offense, was traded from the New England Patriots to the Minnesota Vikings. When the story broke last night that he would likely be dealt, many books jumped on the news and began increasing their over/under line for the Monday Night match-up between the Jets and Vikings. Both Pinnacle and Olympic increased their over/under line a point within three minutes of each other shortly after 8:30PM Tuesday night, while Cris jumped 1.5 points early Wednesday morning once the trade became official. With the Jets reputation of having a fierce defense, this trade obviously had a major effect on the over/under betting line.
Surprisingly, the trade of Randy Moss has yet to have an effect on the spread for the Vikings-Jets tilt. It will be interesting to monitor the spread as the game approaches and news is released on how much, if it all, Randy Moss will play Monday Night against Darrelle Revis and the New York Jets.
