2017-18 College Football Week 8 Betting Recap

2017-18 College Football Week 8 Betting Recap

Week 8 did not bring us any big upsets, especially in Top-25 action but that may not be such a bad thing. It will only make the rest of the matchups during the season that much bigger, and Week 9 has some good ones: Ohio St/Penn St, UGA/Florida, NC State/Notre Dame, Oklahoma St/WVU, Clemson/Georgia Tech and more. But first let’s recap what happened from a betting perspective in Week 8:

Week 8 Betting Trends:
Home teams 33-22-1 ATS
Favorites 28-27-1 ATS
Ranked teams 11-7 ATS
Teams <40% bets 18-12 ATS
Overs 29-27

30+ point underdogs were 52-21 ATS heading into this week, but both Kansas and Tennessee failed to cover.

Home teams are finally getting back on track ATS after a terrible start to the season, as are teams getting <50% and <40% of tickets.

Biggest ML upsets:
Charlotte +300 vs. UAB
Arizona St +283 at Utah
Pitt +275 at Duke
Rutgers +259 vs. Purdue
BC +250 at UVA

Betting Nuggets:

There are plenty of bad beats every week in college football, and Wisconsin seems to play around the spread more often than not. Here was how they covered yesterday vs. Maryland:

The Kansas Jayhawks have now lost 44 straight road games. Their last win was in 2009 at UTEP 34-7. They were +38 at TCU and lost 43-0, unable to cover.

Ranked teams at home after a bye are now 98-68 ATS since 2005 after Penn State crushed Michigan 41-13 last night.

3 teams had a chance to go over their Season Win Totals again on Saturday, and all 3 failed once again:
Maryland Over 3.5 (lost at Wisconsin)
Buffalo Over 3.5 (lost at Miami Ohio)
UL Monroe Over 3.5 (lost at South Alabama)

BYU lost again and fell to 1-7 SU and 0-8 ATS. FSU also lost again, dropping to 2-4 SU and 0-4-2 ATS. They are still the only two teams that haven’t covered a game yet this season.

There were three perfect ATS teams heading into the week and two remain: UCF 5-0-1 ATS and Georgia Tech 6-0 ATS. Utah had been 5-0 ATS but lost at home to Arizona State as favorites.

UCF is now a combined 17-0-1 ATS on the 1H, 2H and Game Spread this season.

Kansas State covered but gave up this TD run with the game tied late:

Overtime rules make spread betting crazy in college football, and Nevada backers +6 were begging for this Air Force field goal to hit:

South Florida scored 30+ points for an NCAA record 24th straight game, but they failed to cover -10 in a 34-28 win at Tulane.
