How Alex Smith’s Injury Moved the Redskins-Cowboys Betting Line

In Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury that required immediate surgery and will sideline him for the rest of the season.

Backup quarterback Colt McCoy will now be under center for Washington’s Week 12 game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day (4:30 p.m. ET, FOX).

Prior to Smith’s injury, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook opened the Cowboys as 5-point home favorites against the Skins in last week’s lookahead lines.

Bettors even knocked that down to 4.5 on Friday, as Westgate took some early Washington money.

However, with McCoy getting the start for Washington, BookMaker opened Dallas as a 9-point favorite. Bettors once again jumped on the Skins, pushing the line down to Cowboys -7/-7.5, depending on the sportsbook.

According to our research, Smith is worth approximately three to four points to the spread.

Considering the early line was Dallas -4.5, the current spread makes sense, especially with the value of that key number.

Betting action is very balanced at the time of writing, with 56% of tickets and 50% of dollars wagered on America’s Team.
