Clemson Continues to Impress Oddsmakers: Updated College Football Title Odds

Another week of college football in the books, another impressive Clemson win along with it.

The reigning national champs jumped from +500 to +350 to win the College Football Playoff after beating Virginia Tech 31-17 in Blacksburg. The loss likely ended any title hopes for the Hokies, as they’re now +15000.

Also benefiting from a big win was Washington State. The Cougars knocked off USC at home and saw their title chances go from +6600 to +2500 in the process. Interestingly, the Trojans’ odds weren’t totally crushed. Sure, they fell from +800 to +1600, but those are still the best odds of any Pac-12 team.

Looking at the remainder of their schedule, winning out doesn’t seem like an unreasonable task for USC. They’ll face Utah at home and Notre Dame on the road, but if they can get past those hurdles they could be looking at a one-loss season. So while they’ve certainly set up a hill to climb, I’d say it’s still easier to picture them in the playoff over teams that have superior conference opponents (sorry Oklahoma State and Georgia).

The Big Ten, specifically the East, remains completely up for grabs. Michigan’s win at Purdue bumped them up to +1600, and seemingly brought the Buckeyes’ odds from +1000 to +1200 seeing as how OSU rolled through Rutgers on Saturday. Unfortunately we still have a few more weeks before we get to see a head-to-head matchup between two of these powerhouses. Michigan will visit Penn State on the 21st.

And of course there’s LSU. You’ll have to click “Next” at least once to find them on this table, as they’re now sitting at +12500 after a humiliating home loss to Troy. Despite their efforts, Troy remains unlisted again this week.
