2016 College Football: Alabama Betting Breakdown

2016 College Football: Alabama Betting Breakdown

The Alabama Crimson Tide have been nothing other than impressive this season. The perennial football powerhouse finished the regular season 13-0, securing the number 1 seed in the College Football Playoffs.

For Alabama, utter dominance has become par the course, especially under head coach Nick Saban. Since Saban was hired, the team has closed as an underdog in only in 9 out of 124 regular season games and have been double-digit ‘dogs once.

This season, betting ‘Bama has been a surprisingly profitable investment, even though the team is a public darling. They finished the regular season 9-4 ATS, which is their best ATS record since 2005.

The table below displays Alabama’s closing odds and ticket percentages in their regular season games this season.

One fascinating observation is that the Crimson Tide received less than half of spread bets just five times this season and covered the spread in all except for one of those games.

Heading into Saturday’s playoff game against no. 4 seed Washington, it’s much of the same for ‘Bama. They opened as a 14-point favorite and are receiving 63% of spread bets.
