Update Heisman Odds: Barkley Now a Minus-Money Favorite

For the first time this year, we have a minus-money Heisman favorite. Saquon Barkley had 176 all-purpose yards and 3 total touchdowns in Penn State’s 42-13 win over Michigan, moving him from +100 to -140 to take home the Heisman trophy in December.

Bryce Love’s Heisman chances also increased despite this being a Stanford bye week. You’d assume that meant Baker Mayfield had an off weekend, but that was certainly not the case. Mayfield threw for 410 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for another two, in Oklahoma’s win at Kansas State on Saturday, yet his Heisman chances dropped from +275 to +700 at BetOnline.

Jonathan Taylor finally is getting some respect from oddsmakers. He comes in this week at +2500, tied for the sixth best odds, after being unlisted to this point. He’s the Big Ten’s leading rusher in terms of both yards and touchdowns (yes, ahead of Barkley in both), and has scored at least one rush TD in every game this season. In another year, Taylor’s odds might be better. But his absence in the receiving game significantly hurts his Heisman chances, especially in a season where the race is led by two other standout backs.
