Stanton, Ohtani Acquisitions Shift World Series Odds

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but the Yankees have landed the biggest name in the offseason market. This morning it was reported that the Yanks and Marlins had come to terms on a deal that would send Giancarlo Stanton to New York in exchange for a group of players headlined by Starlin Castro.

The trade comes one day after Japanese sensation Shohei Ohtani announced he’d be joining the Angels, meaning the American League outlook has changed a bit in the past two days.

After ending 2017 one win short of the World Series, the Yankees were hovering around 9 to 1 prior to acquiring the reigning NL MVP. Following the move they jumped up to 5 to 1, becoming the American League favorite at each of the four listed books. The even surpassed the Dodgers as the league-wide favorite at Bovada.

The Angels finished 2017 at 80-82, good for second place in the American League West. After being listed at 50 to 1 prior the addition of Ohtani, they’re now centered around 20 to 1, more than doubling their implied probability to win it all in 2018 (1.96% to 4.76%).

Let’s see if he can put up and play like he did in the Marlin’s don’t don’t get everyone hopes up just yet. Coming to play in New York it changes a play and see if he can handle it here. Hope Stanton has heart and is able to get the Yankees to the playoffs and steps up in the playoffs. We don’t needs duds in the playoffs
