I’m not going to do much analysis here, as these are sure to change a lot over the offseason. Here are a few that I do and don’t like, though.

Like

Yankees +900: As a Red Sox fan, I don’t like doing this. There’s no denying that they are set up very well for the future, though. There’s still a chance that they win this World Series! Not only do they have a great roster right now, they also have tons of stud prospects that they can use as trade chips or let develop. Also, they’re the Yankees. A huge free agent destination that is never afraid to spend the big bucks.

Cardinals +2000: The Cardinals were dealt a crap hand right from the get-go this year, as Alex Reyes, perhaps the best pitching prospect in the league, needed Tommy John surgery in spring training. They went 44-37 in the second half of the year and got contributions from a bunch of young players. Their run differential of +56 also suggests that they were expected to win 87 games rather than 83.

Don’t Like

Brewers +2500: The Brewers showed some heart this year and surprised everyone by nearly making the playoffs, but I don’t think they’ll play to that same level next year. (I told you…not much analysis)

Mets +3300: The Mets were an absolute trainwreck this past season. Their lineups towards the end of the year were downright laughable, as seemingly every starter of theirs was on the DL. Even if they are healthy (which seems impossible), I think they’ll have a lot of trouble even making the playoffs. Matt Harvey just isn’t good anymore, their offense relies too much on Yoenis Cespedes, and there are several other teams that should be better than them that will vie for wild card spots.

Check back in the offseason when we actually start to get a good idea of how each team will look next season.
