Welcome to the sixth edition of the 2011-2012 College Basketball Marketwatch, where the team at Sports Insights gives sports fans unprecedented insight into the College Basketball point-spread market.

Every week we analyze the sports betting marketplace to pinpoint which games the public is chasing and which the sharps are pounding.

Overall Record = 2-3

The goal of this weekly column is to highlight games that offer true “line value.” Often, if a line looks too good to be true, there is a reason. You’ll occasionally need the worst teams on the board to come through. We typically buy on bad news and sell on good.

Recapping Edition 5

Behind a team-high 16 points and 11 rebounds, the Purdue Boilermakers were able to knock off Big 10 rival Iowa by the score of 79-76. Fortunately, with Iowa getting four points we were able to cover the spread as marketwatch won it’s second game of this young season.

With the win, College Basketball Marketwatch moves to 2-3 on the year.

Wofford vs. College of Charleston    (1/5 – 8:00 p.m. ET)

In this week’s edition of marketwatch, we will examine the Southern Conference battle between the Wofford Terriers (8-6, 1-1) and the College of Charleston Cougars (10-3, 2-0).

The Terriers, who are coming off a stunning 56-52 victory over Wake Forest, are led by 6’6″ senior guard Kevin Giltner — who averages 16 points per game this season.

On the flip side, the Cougars sport a well-rounded offense with four players posting double-digit scoring averages. However, C of C is led in both scoring and rebounding by Antwaine Wiggins (18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds).

The College of Charleston opened as a 2-point favorite at the market-setting Cris sportsbook and, according to Sports Insights’ College Basketball Betting Trends, is currently receiving 69% of all spread bets. Despite this one-sided betting percentage, the line has dropped to -1. This reverse line movement indicated that sharp money is coming in on Wofford.
