2017 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest “Analysis”
Admit it, you love the 4th of July Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in all of its gluttonous glory. I know I do.
It’s the one day of the year where you don’t have to be self-conscious about the amount of food you eat. Want to put four patties on your fresh-off-the-grill burger? Go for it! Going to reluctantly ride your six-beer buzz to that sixth hot dog of the day? Who cares? Because Joey Chestnut is about to crush 65 of them.
Add a paid work holiday and accepted/encouraged day drinking to the mix and we have a textbook recipe for one thing: gambling.
Thankfully the fine oddsmakers at a handful of offshore sportsbooks are offering multiple betting options for those inclined to satiate their competitive eating hunger.

Life may be too short to bet unders for stick-and-ball sports, but not when we’re testing the limits of the human digestive system. After Matt Stonie snapped his eight-year winning streak in 2015, Chestnut rebounded in a big way last year by putting away a ridiculous 70 hot dogs. With the crown returned to its rightful owner, I’m expecting a lack of motivation to result in letdown from “Jaws” this year.
This doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll lose, but I’m taking under 70.5 dogs, especially at a price of +135.
Happy 4th of July to everyone and best of luck betting on the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, because most of us won’t even remember it.
