Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition
We had a bit of a miss step in our first edition of this year’s NHL Marketwatch, but we are going to look to right the ship with this new edition.
Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable investment.

Toronto Maple Leafs +135 over Tampa bay Lightning
A couple of weeks into the season, the teams and their places in the league are coming into shape, and we think that we have found an edge on one of tonight’s games. The Toronto Maple Leafs (5-5-3) are heading to Tampa Bay to take on the Lightning (7-4-2). The Maple Leafs are coming off of a shootout loss to Buffalo, while the Lightning are on a 2-game losing streak.
Tampa Bay opened at 5Dimes at -155 and now sits at -150. They are a considerable public favorite with 74% taking the Lighting in Moneyline bets. As always we are going to go the other way and take the Maple Leafs. Our betting systems like the Leafs as well. Both Steam and Smart Money have plays triggered by books with positive units won.
