Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition

We took a loss in units last week when the Kings lost to the Avalanche in a shootout Wednesday, but we are holding our heads high and trudging on with the knowledge that there is still season left. The 4-3 Avalanche win was the result of a Kings 2-goal comeback in the third powered by goals from Drew Doughty and Alexander Frolov. The Avalanche came out on top in the shootout with goals by Peter Mueller and Chris Stewart and a strong performance from goalie, Craig Anderson.

Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable investment.

Sports MarketWatch – NHL Games to Watch

Minnesota Wild +120 over Chicago Blackhawks

This week we will take the Minnesota Wild (37-33-6) at home against the Chicago Blackhawks (46-22-7). The Wild have a solid 25-10-3 record at home, and the Blackhawks are coming off three losses including a 4-2 loss to St. Louis Tuesday. The Wild beat the Blackhawks in their last meeting on January 9 with an impressive comeback. We expect to see a good game from the feisty Wild.

The Blackhawks opened at -128 at Matchbook and is now sitting at -122. The public is heavily behind the Western Conference Central leaders with 75% of the moneyline bets. Our betting system’s Smart Money plays triggered a play on the Wild from BetUS (9-7, +4.12). We like this line as well as the move from a positive units triggering book, and we are excited to take the Wild in tonight’s game.
