Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition

Last week we picked up a unit and some change with a win by the Phoenix Coyotes over the New Jersey Devils. Daniel Winnik gave the Coyotes the go ahead goal with 8:08 remaining, sustaining a cut off a high stick from the stick of Mark Fraser. Fraser received a minor penalty for the high stick, and Zbynek Michalek scored with a shot from the point 1:16 into the Coyotes power play. The Devils were able to get one more past Ilya Bryzgalov with 4:44 to bring the score to the 4-3 final.

Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable investment.

Buffalo Sabres +102 over Los Angeles Kings

For our game tonight we are taking the Buffalo Sabres (30-12-6) to defeat the slipping Los Angeles Kings (27-19-3) at the Staples Center. The Kings, who looked to have a one way ticket to the play-offs, have had a difficult time of late sitting in eighth place in the Western Conference with only one point separating them from the Red Wings. Despite a disappointing loss to the Ducks Tuesday with league leading net-minder Ryan Miller sitting out for rest, the Sabres have gone 7-1-2 in their past ten.

The Kings moneyline opened at -117 at Matchbook, but has since dropped to -105, with 56% of the public backing the Kings in moneyline bets. A Steam Move has been triggered on the Sabres by SIA (5-1-0, 83%, +2.32 units), and with the support of the stream and solid line movement we will take the Sabres to win.
