Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition

Last week, we lost a unit when the Maple Leafs lost to the Flyers in Philadelphia. The Flyers’ Danny Briere added to his point total with two goals on his way to his 500th career point. Briere wasn’t alone in this high scoring game. Danny Syvret, Daniel Carcillo, Mike Richards and James Van Riemsdyk also scored goals for the Flyers, while Nikolai Kulemin and Alexei Ponikarvsky put two in for the Maple Leafs in this 6-2 Flyers victory.

Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable investment.

Sports MarketWatch – NHL Games to Watch

Phoenix Coyotes +117 over New Jersey Devils

One day late of our usual NHL Marketwatch we will be taking the Phoenix Coyotes (26-16-5) to beat the visiting New Jersey Devils (32-11-1). This will be the only meeting between these two teams this season, though an exciting one. The Devils are coming off a goalie’s duel vs. the Rangers on Tuesday night, which ended only after a fourth round shootout goal scored by the Devil’s Patrik Elias, and had their 5-game road trip cut in half to head back to the Prudential Center to finish a game against the Lightning that was cut when a group of lights went out Friday. This will be the Coyotes third in a stretch of six home games that have not gone as planned so far with losses to the Sharks and Islanders. The Coyotes will be counting on their stand out net-minder, Ilya Brysgalov, to stop the well traveled Devils.

The Devils opened at Matchbook at -128 and has since dropped to -118 with the public backing them with 64% of the moneyline bets coming down on the game. We will take the Coyotes to beat the Devils at home with some solid reverse line movement across the board.
