Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition

Last week we dropped a unit when the Rangers defeated the Panthers at home. Goals by Panther Victor Oreskovich and Rangers Captain Chris Drury tied the game at one in the first period, but it was Vaclav Prospal that with two goals lead the Rangers to a 4-1 victory. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 33 of 34 shots in his 11th straight start. This was the Rangers 4th win in a row, and first home win of the streak.

Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable investment.

Sports MarketWatch – NHL Games to Watch

Montreal Canadiens +105 over Tampa Bay Lightning

For the last NHL Marketwatch of the decade we will be taking Les Habitants, the Montreal Canadiens (19-19-3), to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning (15-15-9). Both teams are coming into this game winning four of their past five games despite each team getting off to shaky starts in the first half of the season. The Canadiens are coming off a 4-2 loss to Ottawa Monday, stopping their four game winning streak, in which Mike Cammalleri scored Montreal’s 20,000 goal. Meanwhile Tampa Bay beat the Bruins in a 2-1 victory at home on Monday. This will be the second of four meetings between these two teams this year. The Lightning beat the Canadiens back on November 7, 3-1 in Montreal.

The Lightning opened at -130 at CRIS and has since dropped to -110. The public is pretty evenly split on this game, and are currently giving the edge to the Canadiens with 55% of moneyline bets. Number one ranked Steam Move triggering sportsbook, Olympic (28-17, 62% +10.13 units) has triggered on the Canadiens. We will trust this top performing book, follow the steam and take the Canadiens to beat the Lightning in Tampa bay.
