Sports Marketplace – MLB Edition

After starting the season 2-1, Marketwatch experienced its first 0-2 edition last week, losing both games by a total of three runs. In our first game, the Angels jumped all over the Tigers, grabbing a 6-0 lead after five innings. Detroit attempted a comeback, scoring two runs in the sixth, followed by three in the seventh, but couldn’t scratch across the game-tying run. Mark Reynolds did not make it any easier on Marketwatch in Game 2, crushing a go-ahead three-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning in Arizona’s 9-7 win over St. Louis.

Sports MarketWatch – MLB Games to Watch

San Diego Padres +125 over Florida Marlins

After a slow start to the season, San Diego has won eight of their last ten games, rocketing to a first place tie with San Francisco in the NL West. Tonight the Padres send Jon Garland (1-2, 2.86 ERA) to the mound to take on Florida and Anibal Sanchez (1-1 4.82 ERA). The Marlins currently sit one-half of a game behind the Phillies in the NL East and hope to keep the pressure on behind a strong start from Sanchez.

Florida opened as a -135 favorite at CRIS and are currently receiving 67% of spread bets, 54% of moneyline bets and 63% of parlay bets. Although the public is backing the Marlins, the line has dropped to -130, hinting that sharp money is coming down on the Padres. In tonight’s game we’ll follow the sharp money, fade the public and take San Diego.
