Sports Marketplace – MLB Edition

Recapping Last Week

Chris Carpenter baffled the Brewers bats, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out five in a complete game shutout. Yadier Molina put St. Louis on the board with a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Rafael Furcal added a solo home run an inning later. That was all the offense the Cardinals needed with Carpenter throwing bullets as the Cards won 2-0.

Kansas City +105 over Chicago White Sox

In this weeks marketwatch we focus on an AL Central Showdown as the second-place White Sox travel to take on the fourth-place Royals.  Although Chicago currently sits ten games ahead of KC, the two teams are streaking in opposite directions as the season winds down. While Chicago is currently in the midst of a four game losing streak – including a sweep at the hands of the Tigers – Kansas City is on a roll with four wins in a row.

Thursday’s matchup will feature dueling lefties as the White Sox send Mark Buehrle (11-8, 3.58 ERA) to the mound to face Jeff Francis (5-16, 4.88 ERA). While Buehrle has given up a total of 14 earned runs over his past two starts, Francis has given up just 11 runs in his last four outings.

This game offers a great example of reverse line movement as the Royals actually opened at +110 at Pinnacle, and despite receiving just 23% of money line wagers; the line has actually dropped to +101. This movement indicates that sharp money has come down on the Royals.

Considering that Kansas City is amongst the best hitting teams at home with a .269 team batting average and the White Sox offense has been mediocre on the road with a .251 average, the Royals look to be a great value as a home underdog.  This game also features a small steam move at Legendz (69-62, +4.41) which should give any bettor even more confidence in this game.

As always, let’s bet against the public, follow the steam, and get back into the win column.
