Sports Marketplace – MLB Edition

Recapping Last Week

The Royals were down 3-0 but tied it in the 7th inning with three RBI singles.  Unfortunately those were the only runs Kansas City would get as they would fall to the Detroit Tigers 4-3 in ten innings and send Marketwatch to its third straight loss.

Baltimore Orioles over Chicago White Sox

In this week’s matchup, the White Sox finish out a four-game series in Baltimore with Chicago looking to stay in the AL Central race, while the Orioles are just playing for pride at this point.  The pitching matchup features veteran lefty Mark Buehrle (9-5, 3.04 ERA) going against young right-hander Chris Tillman (3-4, 4.85 ERA).  Buehrle has been pitching well, with the White Sox winning 8 of his last 10 starts (Buehrle is 4-1 with a 1.98 ERA over that stretch).

Chicago opened as -145 favorites at CRIS, and with the Orioles in the AL East basement, the public is all over the favorite with 89% of moneyline wagers, and 81% of spread bets coming down on the Pale Hose.  Despite the public pounding, the line has dropped to -131 at CRIS.

The lopsided betting percentages and reverse line movement are enough to make us highlight this game, but to further confirm our selection, there was a Steam Move triggered by Pinnacle (300-254, +41.2 units won this season) which is our best performing betting system this season.

While the win-loss records and pitching matchup may steer you towards the favorite, the sharp money and betting trends suggest taking the home dog tonight and rooting for the series split.
