Welcome to the MLB Edition of Sports Marketwatch, where the Team at Sports Insights gives sports fans unprecedented insight into the sports betting marketplace. If you ever wanted to know what was really happening on the sportsbook side, you now have an all-access pass with Sports Marketwatch!
The staff at Sports Insights analyzes the MLB marketplace to identify which games the public is chasing and which ones the sharps are pounding. Let’s take a look at what game we are highlighting tonight.
Sports Marketplace – MLB Edition
Recapping Last Week
In our last game, Marketwatch got a gem from Dan Haren, who gave up only two hits in a complete game shutout against the Tigers and Justin Verlander, earning Los Angeles a 1-0 victory over Detroit.
2011 MLB Games to Watch: 8-7, 53.3%, +1.94 units
Kansas City Royals +115 over Minnesota Twins
After last week’s game highlighted a matchup between aces Dan Haren and Justin Verlander, this week’s contest between Luke Hochevar (5-8, 5.46 ERA) and Nick Blackburn (7-6, 4.24 ERA) includes two starters who have had problems recording outs this season.
Hochevar has struggled to an 8.27 ERA in his last four outings while Blackburn has been even worse, posting a 12.15 ERA in his last three starts.
Minnesota opened as a -127 favorite at Pinnacle and is currently receiving 80% of monyeline wagers. Due to the lopsided betting percentages, we have circled this game as a possible MLB Square Play candidate, a Betting System that is +28.7 units this season.
A Steam Move at Pinnacle (+36.3 units) was triggered on the Royals as well, convincing us to bet against the public and take Kansas City at the best possible number.
