Sports Marketplace – NCAA BB Edition

Recapping Last Week

Marketwatch suffered its first loss in college basketball last week and it was a tough one.  In a Big East matchup, we took the Louisville Cardinals getting 4.5 points on the road against Notre Dame.  Louisville had a couple of chances to end the game in regulation, but were unable to do so.  The Irish were able to pull away in overtime and won the game 89-79.

Oklahoma State (+14.5) over Texas

Texas has had an impressive season thus far including winning 22 games, remaining undefeated in the Big 12 conference, and looking poised to take over the number one ranking in the country after the Kansas Jayhawks fell to Kansas State on Monday.  They have won 16 of their last 17games with their only loss being a one-point overtime defeat to Connecticut.

Oklahoma State had a good out-of-conference record to start the season, but has struggled within the Big 12.  They are 4-6 (0-5 on the road) in conference play and are ranked eighth out of the twelve teams.  Their last game was a disappointing 11-point loss at Nebraska.

Early in the year, Texas snuck up on some people and you would have benefited from betting on the Longhorns as they have gone 15-5 against the spread overall.  But now, everyone is taking notice as the line opened at 14.5 points at most books.  Despite laying a lot of points, 2 out of every 3 bets are coming in on the favorite.  Sports Insights has tracked a CRIS Smart Money move (87-76 +3.17 units won) on Oklahoma State and the betting line has remained steady at 14.5 points.

Let’s put the recent performances in the rear-view mirror and take the value play tonight against a nationally recognized team.  We will buy Oklahoma State at a low and take the large number of points.
