Sports Marketwatch – NCAA Basketball Edition

In last week’s edition of Marketwatch, Michigan got hammered on the road against Northwestern, never coming to close to beating the two-point spread. Manny Harris struggled with his shot, hitting only four of fourteen shots from the field while leading the Wolverines with four turnovers in the loss.

Washington +5 over California

In tonight’s game, Washington goes on the road to take on California, who currently leads the Huskies by one game in the Pac-10 standings. Washington, who won the first matchup between these two teams by 15 points in January, is coming off an impressive 79-56 victory over Arizona State last week.

After losing back to back games to Arizona and USC, California rebounded to beat UCLA 72-58 five days ago.

California opened as a 5-point favorite at CRIS and the line has shrunk to -4.5, even though the Bears are currently receiving 73% of spread bets. Despite being a significant public underdog, this reverse-line movement suggests there is sharp money coming down on Washington. We’ll follow the sharp money, fade the public and take the points.
