It is always a good idea to review a team’s injury report before placing a wager on a game. Missing players can significantly impact a team’s ability to win games or cover a spread. Key injuries can also be a signal to bettors to wager against that particular team in a given day. Be sure to keep a close eye on the Action Network’s NBA Injury Report with daily updates.

How to Read Action Network’s NBA Injury Report

Our NBA injury report is designed to give you a fast, filterable view of who’s banged up around the league heading into each night’s games.

Filtering the Report

At the top of the tool, you can narrow the list two ways:

  • By player group — toggle between All Players, Key Players, or Starters. Casual bettors and fantasy managers will usually want Key Players or Starters; those doing deeper research may want the full list.
  • By team — view injuries across the whole league or filter down to one or more specific teams.

Reading the Columns

The leftmost column groups players by team, so every NBA player on a given roster is listed together.

From there, each row shows:

  • Position — the player’s position on the court
  • Status — their current game designation (see below)
  • Injury — the body part or type of injury involved
  • Update — a short note giving context on the injury (severity, expected timeline, etc.)
  • Last Updated — when that player’s entry was most recently refreshed, so you know how current the information is

What Injury Statuses Mean

NBA injury statuses are standardized to mean the following:

  • Out — will not play in the upcoming game
  • Doubtful — unlikely to play
  • Questionable — uncertain; could go either way
  • Probable — likely to play
  • Available — cleared to play, often listed after coming off a prior injury designation
  • Not With Team — away from the team for personal reasons, rest, or a situation unrelated to a specific in-game injury designation
  • G League (Two-Way) — a two-way player who may be assigned to the G League affiliate and unavailable for the NBA roster that night

Note: unlike football, the NBA doesn’t use practice-participation tags (DNP/Limited/Full). Status alone is the primary signal, and it can change close to tip-off, especially for stars on the second night of a back-to-back.

Common Injuries by Position

Certain injuries tend to cluster by position, which is useful context when scanning the report:

  • PG — ankle, hamstring, hand/finger (ball-handling heavy, high-contact drives)
  • SG — ankle, hamstring, knee
  • SF — knee, ankle, shoulder
  • PF — knee, back, foot
  • C — knee, back, foot, Achilles (high-load joints under constant pounding)

Knowing these tendencies can help you gauge risk quickly. For instance, a knee injury for a starting center is a much bigger red flag for game-day availability — and for a team’s rebounding and rim protection — than a minor hand injury for a bench wing.

A note on load management: healthy stars are sometimes held out of back-to-backs or late-season games for rest rather than an acute injury. These will usually show as “Out” or “Not With Team” with a note referencing rest, so always check the Update column before assuming an injury is the cause.
