Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition

Mimicking last season’s late start, it took us till our fourth edition to get our first win. We picked up 1.37 units, with the Predators win over the Blue Jackets. The Preds won in a shootout. Colin Wilson kick the scoring off in the first period while Sergei Kostitsyn and Kevin Klein topped of the scoring for the Predators. Antoine Vermette (2) and Kris Russell scored goals for the Blue Jackets. Steve Sullivan scored the lone goal in overtime and Pekka Rinne stoped shootout attempts by Jakub Voracek, Rick Nash and Antoine Vermette.

Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable investment.

Sports MarketWatch – NHL Games to Watch

Anaheim Ducks +155 over Buffalo Sabres

The Anaheim Ducks (18-15-4) are facing off against the Buffalo Sabres (13-16-4) tonight. This is the lone meeting of these teams this season. The Ducks are coming off a win over the Bruins on Monday in the fourth game of the seven game road trip. While the Sabres are coming off a two game skid.

The Sabres opened at -175 at Olympic Monday afternoon, but with strong public betting percentages backing the Sabres the line has dropped as low as -155 and now sits at -165. There are 1554 bets on this game according to our Betting Trends and 62% of moneyline bets are on the Sabres. The reverse line movement on this one is subtle, but we like what we see. Naturally, we are taking a contrarian view of things on this one, and taking the Ducks on the moneyline.
