Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition

In our last marketwatch, we lost a unit when the Philadelphia Flyers led by their captain, Mike Richards, took down the senators 5-1. Richards scored 2 goals and had 1 assist, and had scored 5 goals in the previous three games. He also had Danny Briere, Darroll Powe and Claude Grioux backing him up with goals of their own. Jason Spezza had the only goal for the Senators.

Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable investment.

Nashville Predators +137 over Columbus Blue Jackets

The Nashville Predators (10-8-5) are facing off against the Columbus Blue Jackets (14-8-0) tonight in Columbus. The Predators are coming off a 3-0 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday, and Pekka Rinne got his third shutout of the season. Columbus captain, Rick Nash, has had some trouble as of late adding to the goal column, which could be beneficial to the Preds.

The Predators opened at -151 at Pinnacle but has since dropped to -143. The public is strongly behind the Blue Jackets with 66% taking them in moneyline bets. A Stream Move has triggered by Pinnacle (120-104, +14.26 units) on the Nashville Predators. We’ll take the trends in reverse line movement that we are seeing in the lines as well as the very strong Steam Move, and take the Nashville Predators to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets.
