Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition

The NHL Marketwatch has gotten off to an inauspicious start our first two weeks going (0-2), but we plan to stick with our tested systems and make our way back to black. Last week’s game was a tight one, with the final decision being made in a shootout. The teams matched each other goal for goal in the first and second, leading to an uneventful overtime, where each team looked to be playing for a shootout. Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle scored the lone goal of the shootout, and Evgeni Nabokov stopped all three Blue Jackets players for a 3-2 win.

Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable investment.

Sports MarketWatch – NHL Games to Watch

Colorado Avalanche +160 over Chicago Blackhawks

In tonight’s game we are taking the Colorado Avalanche (12-4-2) over the Chicago Blackhawks (9-5-2). With a road record of (6-3-2) and (9-5) as an underdog the Avalanche will look to comeback from their first home loss of the season against the Edmonton Oilers Sunday, while the Blackhawks will fight hard to continue their 4-game winning streak at home. Both teams will be reenergized by the return of Jonathan Toews for the Backhawks and Darcy Tucker for the Avalanche, who is back after being taken off the ice from a hard hit from Carolina’s Tuomo Ruutu.

The Blackhawks opened as a -160 favorite at Matchbook, and has since dropped as low as -155 and is now back to -163. This movement has occurred despite the Blackhawks consistently getting around 60-70% of the moneyline bets. Matchbook (+15.04, 19-9) has triggered a Smart Money play on the Avalanche, and with this strong play we will take the Avalanche as the underdog and go against the public to win.
