Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition

The Wild were shut out by the Blackhawks last Wednesday, and we dropped a unit. The Blackhawk’s Ben Eager, Jonatha Toews and Thomas Kopecky (2) got the goals for the Blackhawks in the 4-0 win. This was Antti Niemi’s only second back-to-back game of the season, with a loss to St. Louis on Tuesday. He made 21 saves and this was his seventh shutout of the season.

Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable investment.

Sports MarketWatch – NHL Games to Watch

Nashville Predators +122 over Phoenix Coyotes

For the final regular season game of the NHL Sports Marketwatch, we will be taking the Nashville Predators (46-28-6) to beat the Phoenix Coyotes (48-25-6). This will be Phoenix’s final home game of the regular season, and could possibly be a first round playoff preview, with the Coyotes currently in fourth and the Predators just behind in fifth.

The Coyotes opened at -138 at Matchbook, but has since dropped down to -128 with 63% of the public backing them in moneyline bets. There has been similar line movement across the board of books, leading us to believe that there is some smart money coming down on the Preds. We like this play and think it is a good chance to end the regular season on a high note.
