Sports Marketwatch – Bowl Edition II

Recapping Bowl Edition I

Marketwatch earned a split in our first bowl edition of the season. In game one, Wyoming took Fresno State to overtime, ensuring the Cowboys would beat the 11-point spread. Rutgers, giving three points, pounded Central Florida 45-24, evening up Marketwatch’s record at 1-1 for the week.

Regular Season Record = 24-18-1 (57.1%)
Bowl Record = 1-1 (50%)

Warning to all new readers of the NCAA Football Sports Marketwatch column: in order to follow our selections, you’ll need ice running through your veins. Be prepared to take up meditation or acupuncture to calm the nerves. The goal of this weekly column is to highlight games that offer true “line value.” Often, if a line looks too go to be true, there is a reason. The underlining theme every week is line value. You’ll occasionally need the worst teams on the board to come through. We typically buy on bad news and sell on good.

NCAA Sports MarketWatch – Games to Watch

SMU vs. Nevada (12/24 – 8:00 pm EST)

In the 2009 edition of the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, former Hawaii head coach June Jones returns to his old stomping grounds with his current team, SMU, to take on Nevada.

Nevada opened as a 14.5-point favorite at Olympic and are currently receiving 64% of spread bets. Although the Wolf Pack are a solid public favorite, the line has shrunk two points to -12.5, suggesting sharp money is coming down on SMU. SportsInsights’ Betting Systems agree, triggering four positive Smart Money Plays on SMU, including one at Matchbook (+15.99 units). There is currently one sportsbook offering 13 points, so we’re going to go with the Smart Money, fade the public and grab the Mustangs.
