SportsMarketplace – NBA Edition

Amidst rampant trades and trade speculation involving both teams last Wednesday, New York managed to choke awaya 15-point second half lead against visiting Chicago.  Danilo Gallinari missed a couple of crucial three point attempts in the last minute, and the2-point favorite Knicks dropped their second game to the Bulls in two nights,115-109.  (Note to self: stop telling Chris Duhon when you pick the Knicks in Marketwatch.  He’s still upset from that one time… and not above sabotage.)

Dallas Mavericks -1.5 over Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers come to Dallas tonight fresh off a thrilling one-point victory in Memphis.  Kobe showed all the sportswriters his version of rust, hitting two three-pointers in the last minute and one in the waning secondsto ice the game.  Dallas is also in good form, having won four straightsince acquiring Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood from the Wizards, includingvictories over the Suns and Magic.  Haywood has been an especiallyimportant fill-in on the inside, since the overpaid muscle named Erick Dampier has been out with a dislocated finger.  The Mavericks needed ashot in the arm to remain in the discussion of Western Conference contenders, and Butler, long-suffering star of the Wizards, fits the bill. The swingman averaged nearly 17ppg and 7rpg for Washington and won’t havethe focus of the entire opposing defense with weapons like Dirk Nowitzki,Jason Terry and Jason Kidd around him.

The line for this clash opened at apick at both CRIS and Olympic, as the Mavericks are especially tough atAmerican Airlines Center.  The Public, though, ever the lover ofdefending champions, is backing the Lakers hard.  Currently, LosAngeles is getting 68% of spread, 67% of moneyline and 79% of parlay andteaser bets.  In spite of such heavy support, the line hasn’t leanedtoward Kobe & Co.  Instead, it’s moved 2 full points at most offshorebooks, where the Mavs are now favored!  We’ve seen a handful of sharpmoney plays come in on Dallas, including a Smart Money from Bet Jamaica (+14Units Won) and a Steam Move from ABC (+7.3 Units).  Those books are theleaders in their respective Betting System, a huge endorsement.  Go andgrab the Mavericks with an extra half point at BetUS.
