Sports Marketplace – MLB Edition

Recapping Last Week

Thanks to Chipper Jones and a potent Braves offense, Marketwatch notched our second straight victory of the young MLB season. After falling behind 3-0, Atlanta’s bats went to work, roughing up Philadelphia’s Cliff Lee for six runs and ten hits in just over three innings, earning the Braves a 6-3 win over the Phillies.

San Diego Padres -103 over Houston Astros

In tonight’s Marketwatch matchup, San Diego sends Aaron Harang (2-0, 1.50 ERA) to the mound to take on the Houston and J.A. Happ (1-1, 6.17 ERA).

Harang has been a pleasant surprise so far for the Padres, giving up only two earned runs in 12 innings pitched. As a team, San Diego currently leads the National League in ERA (2.89), however, the Padres have struggled mightily to score, ranking 15th out of 16 teams in total runs scored.

After getting shelled by the Reds in his first outing of the season, Happ looked much better in his most recent start, giving up one run in 7.2 innings against the Marlins Sunday.

Houston opened as a -120 favorite at CRIS and is currently receiving 43% of moneyline bets. These betting percentages have caused the line to drop to -109, making the Padres the slightest of favorites at -111.

We usually don’t take public favorites, however, a Steam Move was triggered at BetPhoenix (+15.11 units), our # 1 MLB Betting System Play so far in 2011, on San Diego, convincing us to shop for the best line and grab the Padres at the best number possible.
