Sports Marketplace – MLB Edition

Recapping Last Week

Despite roughing up Washington’s pitching staff for 18 hits, Baltimore could only scratch across four runs in last week’s game, an 8-4 loss for the Orioles and Marketwatch.

San Diego Padres -105 over Atlanta Braves

Two of the top pitching staffs in the National League will be on display tonight as Alanta heads to San Diego for a three-game set. The Braves will open the weekend series with Derek Lowe (3-5, 4.10 ERA), who has given up nine runs in his previous two starts.

The Padres counter with Tim Stauffer (2-5, 3.13 ERA) who has been brilliant in his last three starts, giving up only one earned run over that span.

Atlanta opened as a -113 favorite at Pinnacle and is currently receiving 73% of moneyline wagers. Despite the lopsided betting percentages, the Braves have dropped to +100 at Pinnacle, indicating that sharp money has come down on the Padres, causing the reverse-line movement.

With such one-sided betting action, this game is also an early candidate for one of today’s MLB Square Plays, which are +34.6 units in 2011.
