Let the Madness Begin

We hope you have your brackets completed. Now, let’s get down to the “serious business” of picking winners “against the spread (ATS).” Please check out our article on “betting against the Public” during the Final Four Tournament. In particular, we noted that betting against the Public works particularly well during sports events that get a lot of attention – as in March Madness!

Sports MarketWatch – Sports Marketplace

Northern Iowa +9 over Purdue

Early sharp money on N. Iowa pushed the line down from its opening line of Purdue -9 at CRIS down to the more commonly available Purdue -8.5. Including teasers and parlays, almost 70% of the bets are getting down on the favorite Purdue Boilermakers. Even so, the early big money pushed the line down.

Our readers know that we like “betting against the Public” – especially when we can follow “sharp money.” Take the points and N. Iowa.

California -2 over Maryland

SportsInsights’ proprietary betting percentages show that about 65% of all bets are coming in on the big-name Maryland basketball program. We’ll “bet against the Public” and take California.

We don’t often take favorites, but we like the combination of fading the Public along with Smart Money coming on California pushing the live from Cal -1 to Cal -2. Maryland made it to the big dance with a 7-9 record in the ACC. Note also that over the past few years #6 and #7 seeds have performed well ATS in Round 1 of the Tournament.

California -2

Washington U. -6 over Mississippi St.

Our offshore sportsbook contacts circled this game because early sharp money pushed the line from Wash. U. -4.5 all the way to -6 – even with the majority of bets coming down on Mississippi St. Let’s tag along with the “sharps” and grab a #4 seed giving 6 points.

Washington U -6

Akron +14 over Gonzaga

This is the big “bet against the Public” pick of the day. Including teasers and parlays, a huge 90% of all bets are coming in on the heavily-favored Gonzaga team. The 26-5 (14-0 in their conference) Gonzaga Bulldogs should be able to handle Akron, but the 14-point spread might be tougher to beat.
