NFL Playoff Betting Trends: New York Giants vs. San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers opened as a 2-point favorite at the market-setting Cris sportsbook but, according to Sports Insights’ NFL Betting Trends, is currently receiving just 43% of all spread bets. Undoubtedly, the public is impressed by the Giants performance in recent weeks — most specifically last week’s 37-20 shocker over the Packers.

These two teams last met previously during week 10 when San Francisco hosted New York. In that game, the Giants were also receiving an impressive 63% of spread wagers despite being 4-point underdogs. Eli Manning had a phenomenal game throwing for 311 yards and two touchdowns, however, his two interceptions proved costly as the 49ers went on to a 27-20 victory.

What makes this game particularly intriguing is the lack of parity amongst the line makers. While many books opened with the 49ers as 2-point favorites, Pinnacle actually opened with the Giants as 1-point road favorites.

Although no books are currently offering NY as a favorite, there is a wide range of odds with lines varying between -1 (5dimes and Legendz) and -2.5 (Wynn). In fact, there are lines available at the key number of 3 as long as you are willing to lay some juice with Leroy’s offering a line of -3 (+115). We consistently preach the value of keeping multiple books because it is one of the main keys as you shop for the best line.

It has been interesting to see the NFL numbers vary from book to book. It is almost as if some shops are taking an opinion on a game which is rarer to see in this day.

Very important, as you mention, to have various books in which to choose from. Why take 2.5 when you can get 3? And the other way around. Small edges add up. Take as many as you can get.
