Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition

I’m going to try and hold back the obscenities as we once again lose in two shootouts, our only solace coming in the fact that we were in it to the end and the season is not yet over. In the USA vs Canada Olympic goalie preview, it was Buffalo’s Ryan Miller who came out on top over New Jersey’s Martin Brodeur with a final of 2-1. Despite Stars' starting goalie Marty Turco sitting out of our second game, the Flames continued their decent into the bottom of the standings with a 4-3 shootout loss. Loui Eriksson scored the only goal of the shootout in the third round with Stars' back-up Alex Auld going perfect in the all three rounds.

Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable investment.

Sports MarketWatch – NHL Games to Watch

Ottawa Senators +131 over Buffalo Sabres

This week we will be taking the red-hot Ottawa Senators (31-21-4) to beat the Buffalo Sabres (32-15-7). The Senators are storming back into contention for the Northeast Division lead, putting together a 9-game win streak. Now just 5-points behind the Sabres, the Senators will look to continue their 10-game undefeated streak against the Sabres, three of which came earlier this season. Buffalo, on the other hand, have gone 4-4-2 in their past ten including a Monday night loss to the Penguins after blowing an early lead.

The Sabres opened at -138 at Matchbook and is now at -133, with 54% of the public taking the Sabres in moneyline bets. There has been limited movement of the line staying in the low to mid -130s. We like the line and the Senators to go into Buffalo and continue their winning streaks.
