Marketplace – NBA Edition
NBA Marketwatch stayed hot last Wednesday with a hit on the Cavaliers.
Cleveland went into the fourth quarter with a 19-point lead and decided to sit
both LeBron and Shaq for the entire period. That was a bit worrisome, but
they were able to hang on for a 14-point victory, the final tally at 109-95.
JJ Hickson paced the Cavaliers with 23 points and 8 rebounds in their first
blowout win in weeks.

Philadelphia 76ers -1.5 over Chicago Bulls
Philadelphia heads home tonight after an unconvincing 4-point victory over NBA
cellar-dweller, New Jersey. Aside from generally being a disappointing
16-31 on the season, they've also managed to confuse just about everyone.
They have followed a 141-point performance with a 74-point stinkbomb, a win at
Boston with a home loss to the Clippers and a win at Denver with a home loss to
Washington. I'll let you think on that for a second... Now, Chicago
has been equally confusing, but at least consistently so. Only 3 times all
season has a winning or losing "streak" been stopped at one. Whatever they
do, they do in bunches. And last night, after a 5-game road winning
streak, they lost. At home. To the Clippers. I cease and
desist.
It's difficult for the shortsighted Public to see beyond 9 victories in their
last 11 games, and so, when the game opened at Philadelphia -1 at both Pinnacle
and Olympic, the bets came hard and fast on Chicago. The Bulls are
receiving 69% of spread bets, 78% of moneyline bets and are being picked for 63%
of parlays and teasers. All in all, that's a solid 2/3 of bets coming down
on the road dog, but instead of dropping to a pick 'em, the line has grown.
It now sits at -2 at most offshore books. Such reverse line movement is
usually an indicator of sharp money, and indeed we've seen a Smart Money play
triggered on Philly from Olympic (+5.45 Units Won). Go out and grab the
extra half-point. It's hanging loose at Bet Phoenix.
