Welcome to this week's edition of the Sports Marketwatch – NBA
Edition, where the Team at SportsInsights gives sports fans
unprecedented insight into the NBA point-spread marketplace. If
you ever wanted to know what was really happening on the
sportsbook side, you now have an all-access pass with Sports
Marketplace! Initially, the NBA Edition of the Sports
Marketwatch will be a weekly column published on Friday,
normally by around 5PM, Eastern Time.
The staff at SportsInsights.com speaks directly with the line
managers at some of the sports betting industry’s largest
sportsbooks about which games the public is chasing and the
Sharps are pounding. We’ll take a look at what’s in store for
today’s NBA games.

Recapping Last Week’s NBA Action
Last week, our “Games to Watch” were painful to watch. We were
white-washed and went 0-3. Sometimes “ugly” teams yield ugly
results. However, they do yield value in the long-run. Enough
said. Let’s look forward to finding some values and get back on
track.

NBA Sports Marketwatch 1/25/07 – Games to Watch
Memphis Grizzlies vs Washington Wizards
SportsInsights.com’s statistics on betting percentages show that
with 65% of the bets on Washington, the line actually decreased
from Washington -8.5 to Washington -8. This is an indicator that
“smart money” is coming in on Memphis. Oddsmakers at the
sportsbooks tell us that early sharp money did, indeed, push the
line down a bit.
We often need “bad” teams to do “good” things – and this is
another example. Memphis is a last place team, playing .286
ball, while Washington is 3 games out of first place in their
division. Fasten your seatbelt and grab the value that we – and
the “sharps” see. There are still some 8.5’s out there.
Memphis +8.5
LA Clippers vs New Orleans Hornets
The “market action” on the LA Clippers is similar to the action
on Memphis. With over 60% of the bets on New Orleans, the line
has decreased from New Orleans -11.5 to -11. Sharp bettors are
getting down on the Clippers – and we see several reasons for a
contrarian play in this game.
New Orleans is playing over .700 ball and is in first place,
winning 6 in a row – and 9 of their last 10. Perhaps the Hornets
are now one of the NBA’s elite teams, but we still like “selling
them at a recent high.” The Hornets are a hot 26-14 “against the
spread” this season but we believe the “sports marketplace” has
caught up with them.
The LA Clippers are a last place team, but have been playing
better recently. We like the Clippers plus double-digit points.
LA Clippers +11.5
So, here’s a wrap-up of SportsInsights.com analysis for this
week’s Games to Watch for the NBA.
Games to Watch (2-6-0)
Memphis +8.5
LA Clippers +11.5
It should be another exciting weekend in the sports marketplace.
