Our last pick, the week before the All-Star Break, was an out and out debacle.  It was one of our stronger system plays of the year, but Milwaukee starter Chris Narveson had other plans.  Rookie catching sensation Buster Posey hit two home runs off of him, including a grand slam, en route to a 15-2 Giants victory.  Marketwatch looks to turn its season around at the halfway point and take advantage of a Public that likes to make up its mind about teams a bit too early.

Detroit Tigers + 116 over Texas Rangers

The Rangers sit in a rather comfortable position these days, with double the lead (5 games) that the Yankees and White Sox enjoy atop their respective divisions.  Second baseman Ian Kinsler is back from injury and as hot as ever, hitting .361 with 18 runs and 18 RBI in the last 30 days.  The Tigers, on the other hand, have lost 6 in a row and just sent third baseman Brandon Inge to the disabled list with a broken left hand.  Tonight they send Armando Galarraga - yes, of near perfect game fame - to the mound.  Galarraga has had some struggles since his gem, even getting sent back down to Triple-A Toledo briefly.  He'll face Tommy Hunter, who has been successful without spectacular stuff, going 6-0 since returning from injury in early June.  Texas will be without resurgent slugger Vladimir Guerrero, who will have the night off to rest.

The Rangers opened as -145 favorites at CRIS and are garnering relatively solid public support.  Sports Insights proprietary betting trends show the Public to be backing Texas with 54% of moneyline bets as well as 68% of runline and 59% of parlay wagers.  But instead of growing, the line has dropped at most sportsbooks, all the way down to -122 at CRIS.  Detroit needs to turn its season around quickly to stay in the tight AL Central race.  We love taking live home underdogs, especially when the reverse line movement indicates some sharp money.
