Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition

Well, we road on the heels of a 10-game winning streak by the Ottawa Senators to add 1.31 units to our totals in their 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres. Daniel Alfredsson put a pair of goals in the net for the Sens, as did Jason Spezza and Brian Elliot had an excellent performance in his eighth straight win. Though the Senator’s streak has since ended, they have put themselves in a great position going into the Olympic break.

Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable investment.

Sports MarketWatch – NHL Games to Watch

Philadelphia Flyers +144 over New Jersey Devils

We are taking the Philadelphia Flyers (29-25-3) to beat the New Jersey Devils (36-20-2) in the last week before the Olympic break. The Flyers are winning this seasons series between the two teams 3-1-0, with the latest victory coming this past Monday at home. Flyers captain Mike Richards has been productive against the Devils throughout his career, notching 27 points in 32 games, and the Flyers will need him to continue this trend in order to knock off the Devils for a fourth time. The Devils newly acquired Ilya Kovalchuk has yet to register a goal with his new club despite having taken 18 shots including 9 against the Flyers on Monday.

The Devils opened at -156 at Pinnacle and now is getting -150, with 67% of the public backing the Devils in moneyline bets. We like this movement and will be taking the Flyers to add one more to their record against the Atlantic Division leaders.
