Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The
plus odds are a reason that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win
and therefore overvalue winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally
win less than 50%, but the plus odds payoff makes it a profitable investment.
Recapping Last Week
Last week's NHL Marketwatch "Game to Watch" selection, the
Carolina Hurricanes, picked up a huge 5-3 road victory over the heavily
favored Montreal Canadiens. Trailing 3-2 entering the third period, the
'Canes scored three unanswered goals in the final stanza to secure the
improbable come-from-behind win.

With the victory, NHL Marketwatch
improves to 12-6 (+10.66 units) on the
season.
Detroit Red Wings +100 over Chicago Blackhawks
With the 2011-12 NHL
season entering the final stretch run, the Detroit Red Wings (41-17-2,
84 points)
travel to the United Center to face the Chicago Blackhawks (32-21-7, 71
points), with the puck being dropped at 8:00 PM ET.
Despite Pavel Datsyuk (16-43-59) expected to miss the next two weeks with a knee
injury, the Red Wings boast one of the deepest and most balanced offensive
attacks in the NHL.
Led by
Johan Franzen (23-24-47), Henrik Zetterberg (13-33-46) and Valtteri Filppula
(16-29-45), Detroit enters this Original 6 showdown with 11 different players
having scored at least eight goals.
Meanwhile, due in large part to the disciplined back-checking, layered defensive
approach implemented under head coach Mike
Babcock, the Wings are once again one of the stingiest defensive teams in the
league as well, allowing
just 2.3 goals per game (5th best in the NHL).
Central to the Wings' defensive dominance has been the stellar play of goaltender Jimmy
Howard (32-11-1, 2.03 GAA, .924 SV%), who is expected to return to the starting
lineup tonight after missing the previous five games with a broken finger.
According to Sports Insights'
NHL Betting
Trends, Detroit opened at -105 (Bovada) and is currently receiving
just 43% of moneyline wagers.
The public betting chart below, which is available on
our Live Odds 3.0 page, shows a breakdown of moneyline action on this game

As a result of the relatively lopsided betting in favor of Chicago, the moneyline
has increased to +100 (Bovada).
Further strengthening our selection, we have also
triggered a notable
Steam Move on Detroit +100 by Cris [Cigar] (136-107, 55%, +16.73 units), which
is currently by far and away the number one book in terms of its respective
NHL
Betting System.
The line history graph below, which is available to all
Premium and All-Pro Combo members, shows how the
moneyline
betting trends and betting system plays have affected line movement for
this game at Pinnacle.
Currently, Bovada has the most profitable moneyline for the
Red Wings (+100), however, remember to
Shop for the Best Line before placing your bet as this could change before the puck drops.
We are fading the home favorite Blackhawks and going with the Red Wings to
pick up the big road victory and keep NHL Marketwatch on the winning track.
