Sports Marketplace – NHL Edition
With just over three weeks of the NHL season gone, we have already seen some
fun and exciting games, which are good opportunities for the sports investor.
Currently the Pittsburgh Penguins sit atop the NHL standings with a record of
(9-2-0), but there is still plenty of season left to see who can stop the
defending Stanley Cup winners and while the rest of the 29 teams try, we will
find value in betting against the public.
Hockey can be a very profitable sport to bet on when you base it off
moneyline odds, especially when betting underdogs. The “plus odds” is a reason
that NHL moneyline dogs can show value over time. Most people like to win – thus
overvaluing winning teams. Our selections on moneyline underdogs will normally
hit at less than 50%, but the “plus odds” payoff makes it a profitable
investment.

Sports MarketWatch – NHL Games to Watch
Phoenix Coyotes +145 over New York Rangers
In tonight's first game, the (6-3-0) Phoenix Coyotes
visit the (7-3-1) New York Rangers to try to knock off the fifth placed Rangers
at home. The Rangers are coming off of their third straight loss on Saturday
against the struggling Canadians, and the Coyotes will try and come back from a
tough loss against division rival Kings after a four game win
streak.
The Rangers opened as -169 favorites at Matchbook, but
they currently sit at -142. There has been a 15 to 20 point drop at several of
the market setting sportbooks, despite the public favoring the Rangers in 68% of
moneyline bets. Though there has not been a good move on this game, the reverse
line movement on the moneyline makes this play a strong move for betting against
the public. With this strong reverse line movement, we’ll go against the public,
and take the Coyotes to win this one.
