Sports Marketplace – MLB Edition

More bad news for Marketwatch, as our last pick, the Tigers, got shut out at home by Tommy Hunter and the coasting Rangers.  Ian Kinsler, Josh Hamilton and David Murphy all went deep in Detroit en route to an 8-0 victory.

Sports MarketWatch – MLB Games to Watch

San Diego Padres +123 over Los Angeles Dodgers

The Padres have gone from sure-to-fade darlings to trade deadline buyers.  Having added Miguel Tejada and Ryan Ludwick to bolster their (formerly smoke and mirrors) lineup, they’ll now turn to the task of holding off a cadre of NL West contenders.  The Giants have won 3 games in a row, the Rockies 4 in a row.  Joe Torre’s Dodgers were deadline buyers as well, adding Scott Podsednik, Ted Lilly and Octavio Dotel.  Still, they’re in a 5-game tailspin and 8 games behind San Diego despite owning the NL West’s best intra-division record at 25-13.  Tonight, they’ll send Hiroki Kuroda (8-9, 3.53 ERA) to the mound to face promising young lefty Clayton Richard (8-5, 3.48).  Richard’s last start was against these same Dodgers, when he threw six innings of one-run ball to take the win at Petco Park.

Los Angeles opened as -130 favorites and are receiving decent public support at just above 60% of moneyline and runline bets.  The line has held steady at some sportsbooks and dropped slightly at others, indicating possible Sharp money on the road-side of this projected low-scoring affair.  In addition to a pair of solid Bet System moves on the Under, we’ve seen a Steam Move come through on the Padres from 5Dimes (+19.8 Units Won), our highest performing trigger book to date this season.  We’ll happily take the sharp money on the plus-money team.  Here comes the turnaround.
