Welcome to this week’s edition of the Sports Marketwatch – MLB Edition, where the Team at SportsInsights gives sports fans unprecedented insight into the sports marketplace. If you ever wanted to know what was really happening on the sportsbook side, you now have an all-access pass with Sports Marketwatch!  Sports MarketWatch will be published weekly on Friday, normally by 5PM Eastern Time.

The staff at SportsInsights.com speaks directly with the line managers at some of the sports betting industry’s largest sportsbooks about which games the public is chasing and the Sharps are pounding.  We’ll take a look at what’s in store for upcoming games.

Sports Marketplace – MLB Edition

With July 4th landing on Friday, we are publishing the MLB Sports MarketWatch a day early.  Last Friday, the dogs didn’t bite for us and we dipped a bit, going 0-3.  Let’s hope the dogs create some fireworks for us today.  SportsInsights wishes you a fun and safe July 4th holiday weekend.

Sports MarketWatch – MLB Games to Watch

Seattle Mariners +130 over Detroit Tigers

Some people would hate taking a last place team like Seattle.  Many would hate going against an ace like Verlander.  Just two seasons after their glorious run to the World Series led by Verlander and company, the public loves this game to the tune of more than 80%!

This kind of pounding has started to move the line just a bit, adding to the value on Seattle.  We’ll take Seattle as a live home underdog – against a big name like Verlander –

but against a weak road team like the Tigers.  The line might grow a bit during the day with the public pounding bets on Detroit like they have the July 4th newspaper already!

Seattle Mariners +130

Washington Nationals +145 over Cincinnati Reds

Our offshore contacts have this game circled.  Early sharp money has moved the line from Cincy -151 down to -146 at Pinnacle – even though the public is getting more than 75% of its bets on the Reds.  This is a sure sign that “big money” is taking Washington.

Both of these teams are basement dwellers, with Washington laying claim to one of the worst teams in baseball.  Cincy is actually above .500 at home – but +140 odds on this match-up appears to show some value.  We’ll “bet against the public” and join the “smart money” in this game.

Washington Nationals +145
