Sports Marketplace – March Madness – Sweet 16 (Thursday and Friday)

Recapping NCAA Tournament Action

Our last edition of Marketwatch highlighted two selections. One selection, Miami, captured only about 15% of the bets. This one-sided action caused the line to move a huge 2.5 points. Miami lost a close game but covered the publicly-induced over-inflated spread by a few points. The other selection, Arkansas, was overwhelmed by a dominant North Carolina squad.

NBA Sports Marketwatch – Sweet Sixteen – Games to Watch

Washington State +9.5 over North Carolina

North Carolina has been very impressive through the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. As a result, they are capturing 70% of the bets against a very strong Washington State squad that has also earned a berth in the Sweet Sixteen.

We’ll “sell” NC at a recent high after their back to back blowout wins – and bet against the public. The line has expanded from its opener of Wash. St +7.5 to +8.5. The line may continue to grow. Use SportsInsights’ exclusive sports marketplace stats to keep an eye on the point spread.

Washington State +9.5

Davidson +5 over Wisconsin

Davidson beat a very strong Georgetown team – but still isn’t getting much respect from the betting public. People love hearing about Cinderella stories – but often back the favorites with their money.

Wisconsin is grabbing just over 70% of the bets at the time of this writing – and the general public is looking for Davidson to “come back to earth.” On the other hand, sometimes teams and athletes that gain confidence can be dangerous. The sports marketplace tells us that there is value on Davidson plus the points. The sportsbooks are currently holding the line at +4.5. We’ll “bet against the public” and join the side of the sportsbooks.

Davidson +5
