5. Where do the betting percentages come from?

The betting percentages are real numbers from real sportsbooks. All information comes directly from the participating sportsbooks’ respective databases. Sports Insights has agreements in place with these sportsbooks to display betting percentages on individual sporting events to the public. Sports Insights polls the participating sportsbooks’ databases every 1-2 seconds and compiles running averages. These averages are expressed in terms of percentages and are displayed to the public in pie chart form. The “Market Average” betting percentages represent an average taken across the participating sportsbooks. Premium and All-Pro Combo Members can monitor betting statistics for individual sportsbooks before the data is averaged together.

6. How are these percentages compiled?

The betting percentages are real numbers coming from real sportsbooks. They represent actual bets placed at multiple online sportsbooks. We have been offering this information to the public since 1999. Sports Insights has legal agreements in place with these sportsbook to display to the public the percentage of wagers on the spread, moneyline, parlay/teaser, and O/U, plus the #of bets placed on every sporting event. We poll each participating sportsbook’s database every 1-2 seconds. Premium and All-Pro Combo Members are able to view each individual sportsbook’s betting stats in real-time. In addition to original sports betting statistics, innovative Reverse Line Movement and Injury Report Alerts, and proven bet signals (Steam Moves, Reverse Line Movement, Contrarian), Premium and All-Pro Combo Members enjoy the sports betting industry’s fastest betting odds updates. Basic members are only able to view a “Market Average” which is delayed 20mins. It took well over six months to write software stable enough to process this enormous amount of betting information coming from multiple sportsbooks on multiple continents.

8. Why would any sportsbook allow Sports Insights to display these percentages? Doesn’t this information hurt the sportsbooks?

This is one of the most popular questions asked. Let’s just say it wasn’t easy getting the ball rolling. It took Sports Insights over a year to convince the original participants to allow the release of this information. It basically comes down to the sportsbooks wanting and needing to attract new members. The sports betting industry in general believes that the availability of betting percentages will soon become as common as standard betting lines. Sports Insights is the company that finally put all the pieces together and broke the ice. The sportsbooks that participate with us feel that members knowing which side the public is favoring will not hurt their business model. Bettors still have to pick winners. Think of this in another way. Why do sportsbook advertise on sites/phone services (touts) that guarantee winners? No matter what any site guarantees or offers, you still have to win. Sports Insights’ mission from day one has been to help its members make informed decisions based on facts. Always remember, any information is only as good as the person using it.

9. Are these money percentages?

No, the betting percentage represents the percentage of bets on the home team vs visiting team.

10. How is the “number of bets” statistic calculated?

The number of bets placed is tracked on live odds page. It should be used to help users judge the quality of this information. An average size sportsbook will take at least 5,000 bet items for any major pro sporting event (conservative number). The “number of bets” statistic is the total number of bets placed on that game. Bet items include any wager on the spread, moneyline, parlay, teaser, or O/U. SportsInsights.com gathers the “number of bets” stats from 5Dimes and CaribSports ONLY. The other sportsbooks DO NOT provide us with the “number of bets” info. Estimated handle size of each sportsbook from largest to smallest, CRIS > 5Dimes > Sportsbook.com > BetUs > Sports Interaction > Carib > GTBets.

11. How many bets are polled for every event?

(same as above)

12. How many people bet on this game?

13. What is the difference between Consensus sites and Sports Insights?

Click here to learn more about the difference between Sports Insights’ Betting Trends data and Consensus Betting Data.

14. Why does the pie chart say 100% for the home team and 0% for the visiting team?

Because out of all the bets polled by Sports Insights from the various sportsbooks, no one has bet on the visiting team. Oddly enough, this happens more times then not. One reason is that most people bet the favorites early, and underdogs late. The main reason is that most bettors wait until the hour leading up the start of the sporting event to place their wager. * The most accurate betting information appears the hour prior to the start of that sporting event.

15. How often are the charts updated?

Every page in which graphing information appears is time stamped with the exact time the info was last updated. We poll each participating sportsbook’s databases every 1-2 seconds. Premium and All-Pro Combo Members are able to view each individual sportsbook’s betting stats in real-time. In addition to original sports betting statistics, innovative Reverse Line Movement and Injury Report Alerts, and proven betting strategies (Fade the Public), Premium and All-Pro Combo Members enjoy the sports betting industry’s fastest betting odds updates. Basic members are only able to view a market average which is updated every 30 minutes.

16. How can I win using Sports Insights?

Members of Sports Insights have access to some of the most powerful betting and handicapping information developed in the last 10 years. We’ve created a rich suite of sports betting systems that are designed to take advantage of our original data.

17. How can the team being heavily favored by the public become less of a favorite in terms of point spread?

This doesn’t happen often, but when it does it’s a sure sign that “smart money” (large wagers by individuals or a syndicate) has been placed on the Underdog. Smart money can cause the spread to go in the opposite direction of betting percentages. One or two accounts betting the limit at a sportsbook can cause the betting line to move in the opposite direction of what the betting percentage would suggest.

18. What should I do when Sports Insights’ Bet Signals trigger contradicting plays on the same game?

Click here to learn what to do when Sports Insights’ Bet Signals trigger contradicting plays.

19. How do I add or change sports on my live odds page?

The sports tabs on your live odds page can easily be adjusted by customizing your settings. You can choose to display sports by sports type (i.e., basketball, football) or by specific league. (NBA, NFL, etc.) If a new season has begun and you are not seeing that sports’ games in your live odds page, adjusting your sports in the setting panel is the most likely solution.

Click here for our video tutorial about adding/removing sports on your live odds page.

20. Where do you get your opening lines?

Opening lines are provided by Pinnacle Sportsbook. Premium and All-Pro Combo Members can select to view any sportsbook’s opening lines.

21. Which web browser should I use when viewing the live odds page?

Click here to learn which web browser is best for viewing the live odds page.

22. What is the formula used to determine line predictions?

We analyzed over ten years of public betting percentages, betting volume, steam moves, injury news and weather updates to develop a model that has been very accurate in predicting upcoming line moves.

23. What exactly does Line Predictor measure?

This tool forecasts what the very next line move will be, not movement that has already occurred. Once a line moves, the arrow will disappear and the prediction will be tracked as correct or incorrect.

24. Do you archive past line move predictions to prove accuracy?

Yes, all line moves are archived and graded.

25. Which sportsbook’s line movement does the tool predict?

Line Predictor projects the movement of Sports Insights’ consensus line.

26. Will there be a line prediction for every game?

No, an official line prediction will only appear for games that meet specific criteria.

27. Which sports does Line Predictor make predictions for?

The model is currently applied to all College Basketball and NBA games and we’re in the process of refining our models for the remaining major US sports.

28. Do line predictions mean those are games I should bet on?

No, Line Predictor is not a betting system. This tool is designed to help you consistently get better numbers.

If you’re looking for our opinions on today’s games, we recommend following our Best Bets.

29. If Line Predictor isn’t a betting system, why is it so important?

We continually preach about the importance of shopping for the best line because it’s one of the easiest ways to improve your winning percentage. For example, why bet on the Miami Heat at -4.5 when another sportsbook is offering them at -4?

Bettors who have lost games by one half-point or pushed because they got a bad number know exactly what we’re talking about.
With Line Predictor, you now know whether you should take the current number or wait for it to move in your favor.

Let’s revisit the Miami Heat example used above. If your current sportsbook is offering the Heat at -4.5, but Line Predictor is 92% confident that the Heat will drop to -4 with the next line move, why not wait and get the better number after it moves to -4? Conversely, if our Line Predictor is forecasting a line move to Heat -5, you’ll want to go bet the -4.5 before the move takes place.

You’ll be surprised how consistently getting better numbers improves your winning percentage, units won and return on investment (ROI) over the course of a season.

30. Once a line prediction is made, do I have to wait and watch the live odds screen for the line to move in order to get my number?

No, by setting up a simple Line Watcher alert, you can be instantly alerted via popup, email or push alert on our free smart phone app as soon as the line moves to your desired number.

31. Does Line Predictor make predictions for Over/Unders?

No, at this time, Line Predictor only forecasts spread moves, but we are currently refining our Over/Under models and do plan on offering them in the future.

32. What is the units won statistic?

Units Won is a measurement of how many units a bettor would be up by following a specific bet signal or triggering sportsbook. We recommend our members bet in equal units as it is the best way to keep track of your earnings and protect yourself against losing streaks. When a bet signal is triggered, the triggering sportsbook is followed by a number such as “+10″, indicating that the sportsbooks has a positive units won record of plus 10 units, meaning a $50 bettor would be up $500. Units Won is a better indicator of success than winning percentage because it takes odds into account and provides the most accurate record of profit.

33. Who do you like in tonight’s game?

Don’t even think about it. We don’t give out picks. Sports Insights’ mission from day one has been to develop a site that helps players make informed decisions based on facts. By using our unique betting stats and strategies, you’ll be able to pick your own winners. All-Pro Combo Members enjoy a rich set of betting strategies that picks game based on betting line movement and betting percentage thresholds.

34. How long have you been in business?
