Strasburg MRI Reveals Torn Ligament

Strasburg MRI Reveals Torn Ligament

According to the Associated Press,  the face of the Nationals franchise, Stephen Strasburg, has a significant tear of his ulnar collateral ligament and will most likely require Tommy John surgery.  Strasburg’s initial MRI revealed a strained forearm, but the diagnosis raised enough questions to have a second and more extensive MRI on Thursday, which revealed the tear.

Things have definitely gone downhill for the rookie ace and Nationals franchise. After a promising start to the season, where Strasburg went 5-3 with a 2.91 ERA and 92 strikeouts, news of Tommy John surgery has to be a crushing blow for a franchise that looked to be on the rise.

If  Strasburg does go through with Tommy John surgery, he will likely miss the 2011 season.
